Swinging into NYC — My Review of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
I just wrapped up beating Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on the PlayStation 5, and I absolutely loved it. For me, it’s a 9 out of 10 — and here’s why.
What worked
The storyline is amazing. It hits emotionally, it pulls you in, very much making you feel like Peter Parker / Spider-Man — especially if you grew up loving Spider-Man as a kid.
The side-missions: some hit better than others, but they still add great depth and help the city feel alive rather than just a backdrop.
The exclusivity of the PS5 version pays off: the graphics, the ray-tracing, the performance mode — on PS5 I played in Performance + Ray-Tracing mode and it blew me away.
It nails the dual life of Peter Parker: hero vs normal guy, and the balancing act is emotionally resonant.
What kept it from a perfect 10
At one point the story’s tone shifts in a way I didn’t quite expect. It builds one way, then pivots; you think it’ll go in one direction and then it takes you somewhere else. That caused a little drop in momentum for me.
Some side-missions felt repetitive or “been there before” — I wished there were a few more standout ones that felt as memorable as the main story beats.
Overall: I’d definitely recommend it. If you got a PS5 just for Spider-Man games (as I did), or you’re a fan of the character, this one is worth your time and investment.

Game Facts & Back-Story
Here are some fun facts and background you might like to sprinkle in:
Marvel’s Spider-Man originally released on PS4 on September 7 2018.
The Remastered version for PS5 was released in November 2020 (initially bundled with the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales) and later as a standalone.
The developer is Insomniac Games (now part of PlayStation Studios). They’ve been around since 1994 and have delivered many major PlayStation exclusives.
The PS5 version isn’t just a simple up-res: it features updated visual assets (improved character models, facial animation, hair, skin) to take advantage of the PS5 hardware.
Technical highlights: On PS5 you can experience dynamic 4K / HDR, ray tracing, tons of visual polish, very fast loading via the SSD, and DualSense controller features (adaptive triggers, haptic feedback) enhance the “feel” of swinging through New York.
The game includes the main story and the three-chapter DLC set called The City That Never Sleeps.

Final Thoughts & What’s Next
If you’re asking “Should I play this?” — yes. Especially if:
You’re a Spider-Man fan.
You’ve got a PS5 and want to see what exclusives can do on that hardware.
You enjoyed the main story and don’t mind that some side-missions are more filler than flagship moments.
On the flip side: if you prefer very tight and focused story-only games (with minimal side content), then maybe you’d dock a couple of points for the side-mission variety.
For me: 9/10. I’m excited to play what’s next in the series. I’m definitely going to jump into Marvel’s Spider‑Man 2 when I get the chance.
